The Verde River remains virtually untouched by the public. Certain portions of it, including areas in and around Camp Verde, are federally designated as “wild and scenic”, Arizona’s only river to obtain such a prestigious designation.
The Verde River is a perfect spot to float, fish, kayak, and explore by canoe or other float device. And if you don’t own your own gear, float trips and shuttles to and from the river and rental equipment are now available.
Coconino National Forest guidelines suggest the following three major access points in Camp Verde in Arizona off Interstate 17 (use Exits 285-289), 90 miles north of Phoenix, 45 miles south of Flagstaff, and 25 miles from Sedona.
