Connecting with the Spiritual Side of Sedona By Sylvia Somerville
A conversation with Craig Junjulas, president of the Sedona Metaphysical Spiritual Association, an affinity group of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce
Does Sedona have a special spiritual energy? Sedona is in the middle of sacred land with a sacred history. The land itself is like a meridian on the body. It is one of the places where the energy rises from the core of the earth and where the spirit of the sun shines down and touches the earth. You can stand in this exchange; it’s like feeling a breeze. All the people who come to Sedona to pray and do healing work add to the beautiful spiritual energy of the land.
Can someone who visits Sedona absorb that energy? Yes. They are intuitively drawn here so they can go through some kind of rejuvenation, healing or awakening process. Many people report they have released old stuck patterns and blocks. But you have to spend some time in Sedona. If you just drive through town looking for a metaphysical experience, you’ll just find yourself on the other side of town.
Are there spiritual practitioners and businesses that can assist with this process? Members of the Sedona Metaphysical Spiritual Association offer counseling therapies, energy healing, massage and body work, readings and instruction, shamanic services, ceremonies, vortex tours and wedding and other services. There are also retreat centers and metaphysical stores.
Are there tips for choosing the “right” person? It’s best to do a little research before you come. The Sedona Metaphysical Spiritual Association website (sedonaspiritual.com) is one place to go.
Look at the faces; read their claims. Use your inner guidance to choose the right fit. In addition, the Sedona Creative Life Center offers hundreds of programs each year not only by local teachers but also by teachers who come from all over the world. So see what’s available during the time you plan to visit (sedonacreativelife.com).
What can a spiritual seeker take away from Sedona? If you come to Sedona, expect that you’ll keep changing over the next few months and getting closer to who you really are and where you need to go. If you’re in the wrong job, for example, you may find it easier to make the hard decision to shift. If while you’re here, you go to a spiritual practitioner, participate in a retreat or ceremony or take a tour in nature, the shift will usually be quicker, more graceful and more conscious. The more time and energy you invest and the more guidance and healing energy you receive, the more you will get out of your time in Sedona.
